Kevin Longtin will be the new secondary science teacher at Nevis School following approval of his contract at Monday night’s school board meeting.

365体育投注“I believe we hit a homerun,” Superintendent Gregg Parks said. “We feel he will bring a high level of energy, enthusiasm, experience and subject matter knowledge to our science team.”

365体育投注Longtin has been teaching in the Warren-Alvarado-Oslo district for the past four years.

“He did an internship with the DNR down here between Park Rapids and Walker, fell in love with the area and has been trying to move here,” Parks said.

Longtin’s contract will begin with the 2020-2021 school year at Step 5 with a salary of $45,949.

  • Accepted donations totaling $53,824, including $30,000 from the Northwest Minnesota Foundation for elementary technology equipment; $20,000 from the Northwest Minnesota Foundation for high school technology equipment; $1,372 from Arvig Enterprises and $1,000 for the Academic Decathlon from the Nevis Volunteer Firepersons.

  • 365体育投注Heard discipline issues in the high school were 163 for the month of February compared to 66 last year, mostly due to noncompliance issues with the use of electronics in the classroom, something principal Brian Michaelson said they will be addressing.

  • 365体育投注Heard the indoor air quality project at the school that had been tentatively planned for this coming summer has been on hold until more work could be done on the design project. “Most likely that’s going to push us back a year,” Parks said. “We do have a couple of air handling units we’re looking at switching out yet this summer.”

  • Approved spring coaching contracts, including Michael Weerts as the new head varsity girls softball coach.

  • Approved a vote of concurrence for the second year of the American Indian Parent Advisory Committee. Board chair Andy Lindow will take Larry Smith’s place on the committee.

  • Heard a letter from Mike and Holly Malm thanking the school board and district staff for all they have done for his grandchildren during the four years since they were enrolled in the district.
